RECLAMATION - Writing a letter to the future
The Glasshouse, State Library, August 3rd from 10am – 12pm.
All writers welcome, especially those who have experienced mental or emotional distress. The workshop will be led by poets Colin Hambrook and Sandy Jeffs. Participants will explore the language used to describe mental health in the media and within psychiatry. They will write letters to the future that challenge stereotypes and reclaim their identities.
Outlandish Arts, in collaboration with Reclaiming the Butterfly and ARC Stockton Arts Centre – Time Capsule Project in the UK, will invite workshop participants to include their work in a time capsule, alongside other work from around the world by artists who experience mental health issues. The capsule will be buried at ARC Stockton Arts Centre for 25 years, to be opened in 2042.
